Wrist Pain
Wrist pain can develop after an injury, through repeated use or gradually over time. The wrist contains a number of small joints, tendons, ligaments and nerves, which means symptoms can have several different possible causes.
Pain may be noticeable during gripping, lifting, typing, exercise or weight-bearing through the hand. An assessment can help identify which movements or structures are involved and determine the most appropriate way to manage the problem.
Common Symptoms
Symptoms may include localised pain or tenderness, swelling, stiffness, reduced grip strength or discomfort when moving or loading the wrist. Some conditions may also cause tingling, numbness or symptoms extending into the hand.
Possible Causes
Wrist pain can follow a fall or other injury, repetitive hand use or changes in exercise and workload. Tendons, ligaments, joints and nerves can all contribute depending on the nature of the symptoms.
How Physiotherapy Can Help
Physiotherapy can assess wrist movement, strength and function and identify the activities that are aggravating your symptoms. Treatment can then help restore movement and progressively rebuild the strength needed for work, sport and everyday tasks.
